Expanding Your Law Firm’s Web Presence

August 28, 2007 – 7:48 am

What have you done to expand your law firm’s web presence lately? How have you advanced your law firm Internet marketing program by increasing your Internet reach?

These are tough questions — but important ones — that every law firm manager must ask. Oddly enough, however, many in the legal industry cannot answer these questions. In other words, they have not given the proper consideration to their law firm’s web presence.

But this kind of negligence can be crippling from a business development standpoint. Think about it for a moment. Each day, hundreds of people in your own town go online to conduct legal research — to find lawyers, to learn about certain types of law. If you don’t have the kind of web presence that’s easy for them to find, then your law firm is missing out on a lot of potential business.

The Law Firm’s Web Presence - Defined

A firm’s web presence is not the same thing as the law firm website. By itself, your website is just one of many elements that, when combined, can produce a highly visible (and thus highly successful) web presence.

Other parts of the law firm web presence might include online articles and press releases, a law firm blog, sponsored search / pay-per-click marketing, etc.

I put a lot of emphasis on the concept of a web presence (over a website alone) because I’ve been observing the development of the Internet for years — especially as it applies to business communications and marketing. And I truly believe that those law firms that adopt a “publisher’s mentality” to grow their web presence will capture the lion’s share of Internet-savvy clients in their market areas.
